Wilbur Behnfeldt, 72, of Defiance, Ohio died Friday, December 4, 2009 at his residence.
Wilbur W. Behnfeldt, 72, of Defiance, Ohio died Friday, December 4, 2009 at his residence. He was born July 6, 1937 in Adams Township, Ohio to William H. Behnfeldt, Sr. and Regina (Badenhop) Behnfeldt. On October 24, 1964, he married Marlene (Mueller) Behnfeldt at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon.
Wilbur was a Grader Operator at C.F. Gerken & Son's, prior to taking over the family farm operation in 1970. He also helped with maintenance and lawn care at Tropical Freeze in Ridgeville Corners. Wilbur was an exceptional craftsman with wood and will be remembered for his handcrafted cabinets.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Adams Ridge, where he served as Elder and Trustee. He was a member of the Ward L. Adams Legion Post #454 of Ridgeville Corners. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene Behnfeldt; mother, Regina Behnfeldt of Napoleon; children, Teresa (Dennis) Sonnenberg and Michael (April) Behnfeldt, both of Defiance; sisters, Janice (Lester) Rabe of Napoleon and Nancy (Bud Armes) Behnfeldt of Abingdon, Virginia; and a brother, William (Nancy) Behnfeldt of Defiance. He was preceded in death by his father, William H. Behnfeldt, Sr., brother, Roger Behnfeldt and sister, Mary Ann Behnfeldt.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Adams Ridge with Pastor Stephen Knape officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Ridgeville American Legion.
Visitation will be on Monday from 2-8 p.m. at the Rodenberger Funeral Home in Napoleon and Tuesday 1 hr prior to the service at the church.
The family suggests memorials to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund, Ridgeville Township Volunteer Fire Department, or American Cancer Society.
