Norman J. Meyer, 79, of Napoleon, Ohio died Friday, February 26th, 2010 at his residence.

 

Norman J. Meyer, 79, of Napoleon, Ohio died Friday, February 26, 2010 in his home.
  He was born September 21, 1930 in Napoleon, Ohio to the late Leo and Minnie (VonDeylen) Meyer. On December 27, 1952, he married Joan R. (Meyer) Meyer who preceded him in death on September 21, 1981.  Together they had two daughters, Natalie (Dean) Reineke of Cedarville and Jane (Glen) Gilson of Napoleon.  On December 30, 1994 he married Margaret (Bischoff) Meyer of Napoleon who has three sons, Matthew (Jennifer) Meyer of Napoleon, Dr. Mark (Melinda) Meyer of New Orleans and Dr.  Micah (Stephanie) Meyer of Waco, TX.
  Norman worked at the Henry County Bank for 21 years.  He began his banking career at the Holgate State Bank and then became Branch Manager of a new office in Malinta.  Through his efforts the bank’s main office was placed in the county seat and the name was changed to the Henry County Bank.  He was instrumental in the building of a Henry County Bank branch at North Scott Street in Napoleon.  In 1970, Norman was appointed Assistant Cashier, in 1971 became Cashier and in 1973 was appointed Vice President/Cashier.
  In later years, Norman owned and operated an auto detail shop and became a salesman for various auto dealers ending his career with Grogans Dealership in Napoleon in 2007.
  Norman served as President of the Henry County Hospital board and during his term was involved in the decision to build the new hospital at its present location.  He was an active member of the Rotary Club.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon and its Adult Choir; the Luther R. Kolbe VFW Post #8218 and the Bert G. Taylor American Legion Post #300, both of Napoleon.  He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant for the US Air Force during his service in the Korean War.
  He is also survived by grandchildren, Ridge Reineke, Adam and Amelia Gilson, Hannah and Colin Meyer, brother, Rev. Robert (Marilyn) Meyer of Ft. Wayne, IN; sisters, Marian (Fred) Gerken  and  Lois Knuth, both of Napoleon. He was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice "Moe" Meyer and three infant triplet siblings, Frederick, Leo, and Margaret Meyer.
  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Napoleon Joint Veteran Posts.
  Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Monday March 1 at Rodenberger Funeral Home in Napoleon and on Tuesday March 2, one hour prior to the funeral service at St. Paul Lutheran church.
 Preferred memorials are to Hospice of Henry County, Cherry Street Mission in Toledo, or St. Paul Lutheran School.
