Donald F. Ranzau, 74, of Ridgeville Corners, Ohio died April 10, 2010, at the Toledo Hospital.

He was born March 1, 1936 in Napoleon, Ohio, to the late Richard and Emilie (Schroeder) Ranzau. On October 6, 1962, he married Mary Ann (Miller) Ranzau at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ridgeville Corners,Ohio.
Don was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church and a 56 year member of the Ridgeville Twp. Volunteer Fire Department in Ridgeville Corners, Ohio. He was a member of the Ohio Polka Boosters, a member of the Happy Times Polka Band, the Village Dutchman and the American Angler Association. After graduating from Ridgeville High School in 1955, he served with the US Army and Reserves from 1959 - 1965, He was a member of the Bert. G. Taylor Legion Post #300, the VFW Post #8218 and the Amvets Post #1313 all of Napoleon. In 1971 he attended the Defiance College. Don was a supervisor/foreman at General Motors Powertrain Plant in Defiance, Ohio for 41 years retiring in 2000. He also formerly worked at the Zellers Corporation in Defiance, Ohio and was a certified welder at the Shipyards in Toledo, Ohio. He was an avid fisherman and gardener.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann, and sons, Todd (Christi) Ranzau, Barry (Rebecca) Ranzau all of Ridgeville Corners, Ohio and Robert Ranzau of Kettering, Ohio; grandchildren, Brodie, Sydney, Quinton, Brock and Caleb, and a loving sister, Marcia (Eldon) Hesterman of Ridgeville Corners. He was preceded in death by brothers, William and Richard, and a sister, Margaret Ranzau.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ridgeville Corners, officiating Pastor Alva Martis. A luncheon will follow services in the church fellowship hall.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. at the Rodenberger Funeral Home in Napoleon and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. A Fireman's Last Call Service will be held on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
The family suggests memorials to Zion Lutheran Church, Ridgeville Twp. Volunteer Fire Department or to the Ridgeville Twp. Community Park.
