December 19, 1921-December 12, 2010Lucille "Sally" Durliat, died on December 12, 2009, at her home in Port Townsend, Washington. She was 87.
She was born on December 19, 1921, to John and Elizabeth (Lammers) Schmenk in New Cleveland, Ohio, where she was raised and married Bernard A. Durliat on September 14, 1946.
The couple lived in Glandorf, Ohio, for 14 years before moving to Southfield, Michigan for 10 years. They retired to New Port Richey, Florida where they remained for 23 years. Bernard died on July 31, 1999, and Sally moved to Port Townsend that same year.
Sally was a craftsperson extraordinaire: knitting, crochet, sewing and needlework. She was a trophy-winning golfer and bowler, and her family said, she could do everything well. She loved to laugh and have fun and always owned a dog. Sammy, her last dog, was a "true and devoted companion" and died two weeks after she did.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marlene A. and Jim Newman; two grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Dorothy Schmenk, Joan Schmenk, Marie Kuhlman and Rosemary Kuhlman.
In addition to her husband, Bernard, she was preceded in death by her brothers Norman Schmenk, John Schmenk Jr., Oscar Kuhlman, Leonard Kuhlman and Harold Kuhlman (Helen).
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at St. Louis Catholic Church, Custar, Ohio, with Fr. Jeffrey Nordhaus officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery and a luncheon will follow in the school basement.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. in the church prior to the mass.
Memorials may be given to St. Louis Catholic Church or the Wood County Humane Society.
