March 24, 1926-June 29, 2010Earl Eugene "Scrammy" Franz, 84, of Deshler, Ohio died Tuesday morning, June 29, 2010 at his residence.
He was born March 24, 1926 in rural Deshler to the late George Ferdinand and Clara (Meyer) Franz. On November 18, 1950 he married Evelyn Neiswender at the Deshler United Methodist Church and she survives.
After graduating in 1944 from Deshler High School; Earl, along with his four brothers, enlisted during World War II. He was Navy Seaman Second Class and assigned to battleship U.S.S. Missouri, on which the Japanese surrendered to the Allied Forces.
Earl returned home, married his bride of 60 years and was a lifetime farmer on the Franz family farm with his brother, Robert. He also worked part-time at the Deshler Post Office. He was a member of New Beginnings/Deshler United Methodist Church; lifetime member of Deshler American Legion Post #316 and Sycamore Lodge #520 F & A.M.
He is also survived by son, Lee Franz, Findlay, Ohio; daughters, Cheri Warner, Hamlin, New York and Kelly (Ron) Busch, Plymouth, Michigan; 4 grandchildren, Christine Warner, Kim Warner, Matthew Busch and Megan Busch; brother, Harold "Skeet" Franz, Deshler; and sisters, Janet (Ed) Saneholtz, Napoleon, Ohio and Faye (Lewis) Sterling, Toledo, Ohio.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, John, Robert and Dale Franz; and five sisters, Almeda Osborn, Hazel Weaver, Lois Thomas, Darlene Franz and Marlene Franz.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler with Pastor Janet Lewis-Cattell officiating. Graveside services will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors accorded by Deshler American Legion Post #316.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to Henry County Hospice, South Joint Henry County EMS or American Cancer Society.
