Kathryn Strothman Yaney, 97, of Napoleon, Ohio and formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio died Friday evening, July 16, 2010 at her granddaughter's, Gina Hill, residence in Liberty Township, Ohio.Kathryn A. Yaney, 97, of Napoleon, formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away Friday, July 16, 2010 in Liberty Center, Ohio. She was born January 22, 1913 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Henry and Josephine (Lankheet) Strothman. On January 21, 1932 she married Dallas Yaney in Cincinnati, Ohio. He preceded her in death in 1979.
Kathryn was a homemaker and a secretary at Oak Hills High School from 1963 until her retirement in 1973. She was a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at the First Presbyterian Church in Harrison, and attended bible study regularly. She was a member of the Eastern Star, a volunteer at the Deaconess Hospital of Cincinnati, and a former girl scout leader. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, walking, golfing and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Harry (Sue) Yaney of Bonita Springs, Florida and Nancy (Robert) Short of Laguna Nigel, California, and daughter-in-law, Julia Yaney-Engler of Liberty Center, Ohio; grandchildren, Laura (Ron) McIntire, Scott (Wendy) Crum, Karen (Conrad) Donkin, Christian (Mark) Campbell, Robert Short, Kathy Delagrange, Gina (Jerry) Hill and Mike (Gayla) Yaney; 21 Great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sister, Claire Kushman, brothers, William and Charles Strothman and great granddaughters, Erin and Dannie Jo Miller.
A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p,m. on WEDNESDAY, JULY 21, 2010 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Napoleon officiating Pastors James Castello and Lee Genter. A dinner, "soul food" will follow in the church basement. A memorial service in Harrison, Ohio is pending.
A memorial time of gathering will be held at the church from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial donations be given to the Shriner's Children Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, the First Presbyterian Church, 115 South Vine Street Harrison, OH 45030-1313, Alpine Village Assisted Living Center, 1032 South Perry Street, Napoleon, OH 43545-2161 or Hospice of Henry County, 1843 Oakwood Avenue Napoleon, OH 43545-9243 .
